botoxed secularism

The face of sectarianism in our community is botoxed to appear secular; people refill it before stepping into the community.

The face of sectarianism in our community is botoxed to appear secular. People refill it before a night out, a date, a gathering, or a social media post. Yet when it comes to the roots of how we see one another, we know very little about each other only a superficial image that quickly melts when faced with real community matters. What is needed? A surgical operation that reaches the heart and the mind.

We are in the middle of a battle where almost our entire generation claims to be asking for a civil state. We design beautiful visuals, paint our streets with revolutionary graffiti, produce videos, layer them with emotional music, and turn everything into a theatrical scene of a never-ending film one that suggests we are already aligned, already evolved. Yet few of us have truly taken the step to go beyond the surface and clearly define the problems.

What could the next step be to reach a true civil state? How does it start? It starts with the big questions, who are we? Whos is the enemy? What is our identity? What are our values? What is corruption? What are we afraid of? Why do we think we are better? Or less? If you were put in power what is your ethical surviving threshold? Do you have a price?

We all need to relax that muscle the one we carry when we meet and begin reading between the lines.
